Westside Elementary School will be closed again Wednesday to complete repairs to the air-conditioning system, an Isle of Wight County School division spokeswoman said Tuesday afternoon.

HVAC technicians with the division and Trane consultants worked all day to resolve the issue, which was discovered Monday during a routine check, spokeswoman Lynn Briggs stated in an email. After workers removed the motor from one of the cooling towers, it was determined that the motor needed to be completely replaced.

The part is being shipped from Pennsylvania and should be delivered by noon Wednesday and installed by 4 p.m. Wednesday, Briggs stated.

Westside Elementary will be closed again Wednesday but should be open Thursday, Briggs stated.

“We remind families that Westside Elementary, like many schools, does not have windows that open,” Briggs stated. “The elevated temperature and humidity in the building, in conjunction with no air circulation, creates an unbearable and unhealthy environment for students and staff. We appreciate the patience of all Westside families and look forward to welcoming back students on Thursday.”
