Westside Elementary School will be open this Thursday for the first day of school.

The school was closed Tuesday, which would have been students’ first day back after summer break, as well as Wednesday due to air-conditioning repairs. The problem was discovered Monday after it had been working as recently as Sunday, Isle of Wight County Schools said on its Facebook page. A needed part was ordered Tuesday, and repairs took place Wednesday.

“We appreciate the patience of all the Westside families and staff and are excited to start the new school year on Thursday,” division spokeswoman Lynn Briggs said in an email.

The two missed days will not need to be made up due to time already built into the school calendar, Briggs stated.
