Seven local gymnasts achieve honors

The Coastal Point Gymnastics team has seven girls participating in the United States Gymnastics National Talent Opportunity Program this year, and all seven have qualified for the National TOPs test in October.

TOPs is a USA Gymnastics program that seeks out the nation’s top gymnasts ages 7 to 10 and their coaches for specialized training and education.
These gymnasts are Sophia Castiblanco, 8, from Smithfield; Reagan Parkman, 9, from Suffolk; Macie Schmidt, 9, from Suffolk; Madeyln Kate Runyon, 9, from Suffolk; Jah’zaria Winborne, 10, from Portsmouth; Macaela Viola, 10, from Suffolk; and Autumn Miller, 10, from Gates County, N.C.

They will be traveling to Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 4-7 for the next round of testing, from which the top gymnasts will be invited to a training camp in December.

These girls train with coaches Debbie, Kyle and Kourtney Burgsteiner in Windsor. Coastal Point Gymnastics is entering its third competitive year.
