KF boys’ volleyball takes city title

In just one week, King’s Fork High School defeated both Suffolk rivals to take the annual city title.

In back-to-back days, King’s Fork got its first two wins of the season and started a win streak. On Wednesday, the Bulldogs took on rival Nansemond River High School and won in four sets. The following night, they defeated Lakeland High School at home in three sets. Their only two wins of the season have come against their cross-city rivals.

Devin Hernandez led the Bulldogs with seven kills and three aces. Carlo Cecchini set the pace with two kills, seven assists and three aces. Tye Croley contributed four kills and an ace.

“I am excited for these guys,” Coach Angie Gatling said. “They have stepped it up a notch. Beating both rivals is bigtime. Their confidence is rising, and they are starting to see what I see in them.”
