Teens preparing for the next step after high school can stop by the North Suffolk Library on Saturday for a free fair that’s all about post-high school preparations.
The Beyond High School Fair for Teens will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the North Suffolk Library, 2000 Bennetts Creek Park Road. Teens and their families will learn about financial aid, how to apply for scholarships and budgeting in life beyond high school from a host of professionals.
“Our goal is to create an engaging experience where teens along with their parents and guardians are learning about the variety of opportunities and career paths that await them ‘Beyond High School,’” according to Senior Librarian of Teen Services Asa Heyward. “It’s important that youth are aware that there’s more than one path they can follow to become future leaders and innovators.”
More than a dozen local colleges, trade schools, military recruiters and guidance counselors are confirmed to be available on Saturday, according to Heyward. That includes a “My Creole Bowls” presentation in which chef Latesha Roberts will demonstrate how to cook a good meal with limited resources in tight spaces.
“She’ll be doing quick Creole dishes, but in the microwave so that they’re dorm room and apartment safe,” Heyward said.
