Mike Duman is the incumbent for the Chuckatuck Borough, and he will be running unopposed in the Nov. 6 election.

This will be the councilman’s third consecutive term on the Suffolk City Council, and he currently serves as chairman of the Western Tidewater Regional Jail Board, member of the Western Tidewater Water Board and is the City Council liaison for the Economic Development Authority.

“I’m going to continue them to learn by listening to my constituents,” Duman said. “This will allow me to be able to continue to serve the citizens’ needs and wants.”

Duman is hoping to continue working for his Chuckatuck constituents, but he also wants to make sure he is supporting the rest of Suffolk’s citizens. He focuses on making sure Suffolk’s taxpayers are getting their money’s worth.

“My biggest concern is to ensure the citizens are getting the best return on investment with their tax dollars,” Duman said. “I can do this by prioritizing initiatives and projects that will increase the quality of life for all citizens in Suffolk.”

While Duman has been on the City Council since 2010, he is always looking to improve relationships with other members of City Council.

“I intend to improve my ability to gain more of a consensus among my other councilmen to enact initiatives,” Duman said.

Duman hopes to enact initiatives while he still serves on Suffolk’s City Council that will benefit citizens.

Some of his priorities are focused on things like tax abatement for first responders’ spouses when they are killed in the line of duty and holding the line on tax increases.

Financials are still a large part of Duman’s future priorities, and another focus for Duman is making sure the city manages growth, especially in the downtown area.

“I want to ensure that growth continues, but that it also continues to be managed in downtown. We need to have a clear-cut plan based on available funds,” Duman said.

The Chuckatuck Borough is home to Lone Star Lakes Park, and Duman hopes to continue development within the location’s master plan.

“This can be a huge resource for the entire city,” Duman said.

Duman is running unopposed, but he is happy to have the chance once again to serve the city as a member of City Council.

“I appreciate all the overwhelming support from the citizens of the Chuckatuck Borough. I really do have the best borough in the city,” Duman said.
