The Cavs fell just short at home Friday night in a 27-26 loss to Deep Creek High School.
Lakeland High School goes to 1-5 on the season after a home loss Friday night. The Cavs battled it out with a tough Deep Creek team and was right on the balance of a possible win.
Both teams were held scoreless in the first quarter. Deep Creek got on the board first in the second quarter and went into the half with a 6-0 lead. Lakeland made things happen in the second half of the game. A connection from Tyquan Holloman to Demonta Hawkins in the third put Lakeland on the board for the first time.
It was the battle of the fourth quarter as Deep Creek edged out Lakeland, outscoring them 21-20 in the fourth quarter.
“It was definitely a tough game the guys fought hard, and I am proud of them,” Coach Kevin Knight said. “Those guys played so hard, and they battled for four quarters.”
Lakeland will now go on the road to face Grassfield High School next game.
