Lady Cavs down Phoebus

The Lakeland High School field hockey team blanked Phoebus High School 6-0 on the road Monday evening.
For the third time in their last four games, the Lady Cavs were able to post another shutout. Aside from a close loss to Nansemond River High School last week, Lakeland has been on a roll. Including the Nansemond River game, they have scored 27 points to their opponents’ 2. Defensively, they have been playing very well, and that’s important at this time towards the end of the season.
“I think we have been playing pretty well especially compared to last season,” Kaleigh Bell said. “We all really want to finish this season strong, and I think that’s motivating the whole team to play harder.”
“We have been playing awesome,” senior Allison Thompson said. “It has been such high intensity in games and in practices. We had the loss against Nansemond, but it has shown us to continue to dig deep and play with our hearts. My teammates make it so fun and easy to go out and play when we all play with everything we have.”
Kaleigh Bell was credited with another shutout at goalkeeper. Lakeland will face Western Branch High School on the road at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday.
