Esther B. Wood, 86, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 9, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Violet and Robert H. Butler. She was predeceased by her husband, Glenn H. Wood.

She was an active member of Holland Baptist Church, where she had served as treasurer and retired from SunTrust after more than 40 years. Esther was a wonderful mother and enjoyed being Mammaw. She also was an outstanding cook and enjoyed catering meals.

Esther is survived by her daughter, Melinda W. Eubanks and husband, Billy, of Suffolk; son, David H. Duke and wife, Becky, of Disputanta; grandchildren, Chris, Angie, Harley and Jake; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Tom Butler, Ronnie Goodrich and Herbert Goodrich; sisters, Charlotte Carden and Margaret Doss; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, in Holland Baptist Church by the Rev. Matthew Johnson. The viewing will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
