The city of Suffolk and surrounding areas are under a tornado watch, flash flood watch and wind advisory throughout Thursday and Thursday night.
The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued the watches and advisories in advance of the arrival of Tropical Storm Michael, which devastated parts of the Florida Panhandle on Wednesday and has quickly trekked throughout the Southeast.
The storm is expected to arrive in Hampton Roads Thursday evening.
Gusts as high as 22 miles per hour are expected Thursday, with nighttime gusts up to 50 mph. Sustained winds will be up to 32 mph after midnight.
Rain up to 4 inches could come with the storm, and there is a risk of flash flooding.
