Teen suffers injuries after being hit on bike

A teenager suffered injuries not considered life-threatening when a car struck the bicycle he was riding on Tuesday night.

Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the report that came in at 9:53 p.m., advising that a bicyclist had been struck by a vehicle in the 900 block of Portsmouth Boulevard, according to a city press release.

Preliminary investigation found that the 17-year-old male was swerving in and out of the lane of travel on the bicycle when he was struck by a Honda passenger vehicle, according to the press release. The driver remained on scene.

Another vehicle also sustained light damage when it struck the bicycle that was lying in the roadway immediately following the accident, the press release stated.

The juvenile was taken by ground ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening. He was found to be at fault for the crash, the release stated.
