Robert William Campbell Jr.

Robert William Campbell Jr., 77, of Madison, passed away on the morning of Oct. 20, 2018, at The Hospice House in Charlottesville.
Mr. Campbell was born in Portsmouth on Aug. 2, 1941, to Robert William Campbell Sr. and Julia Ann Waldo Campbell. He graduated from Holland High School before joining the U.S. Army, where he was commissioned as an officer, achieving the rank of captain.
Bill worked his whole life in construction. After retiring, he moved to Madison County, where he served on the Board of Supervisors and was active with the Republican Party. He was also actively involved in The National Wild Turkey Federation and the Wounded Warrior Project. He will be remembered as a stubborn, outspoken, hard-working man, who remained true to his convictions, even when unpopular.
He is survived by his sister, Ann Campbell Dalton; his sons, Rob Campbell (and wife, Chrissy), of Chesterfield, Cris Campbell (and wife, Carin), of South Riding, Clay Campbell, of Warrenton; his daughter, Susannah Campbell Millar (and husband, Jeff), of Ridgecrest, Calif., 11 grandchildren, and countless other family and friends.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Julia Ann Campbell, and a daughter, Amanda Ralston Campbell.
A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18 at Bald Top Brewing, 1830 Thrift Road, Madison.
The family wishes to thank The Hospice of the Piedmont, The Hospice House, the doctors, nurses and staff at Martha Jefferson Hospital, and all the friends and neighbors that touched his life.
