Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s cross country team placed third at the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association state meet last weekend.
NSA girls’ cross country team recently finished up a strong couple of weeks to end their season. Third is the best finish ever for NSA at a state meet. The week before, they placed second at the conference meet, which was also the highest finish for the team.
Julie Williamson, an eighth-grader, won the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools meet last week and finished seventh in the state race. Abby Conrod finished 10th in TCIS and 15th in the state meet. Conrod is only a freshman. With the exception of one senior, all of the top runners will return next year.
“It was a very successful season,” Coach Karen Newman said. “The best finishes at both TCIS and the state meet for the girls’ team. We do not lose any of our top eight girls, and with a very large and talented JV team, I feel our girls will be state contenders for several years to come. They are a very dedicated and hard-working group of young ladies.”
The boys’ team finished ninth at the state meet. Their race featured more than 35 teams and more than 300 runners. Jacob Conrod, finished sixth at TCIS last week and finished 13th at the state meet.
