John Morton Hagan Jr.

John Morton Hagan Jr., of Longmont, Colo., a native of Suffolk, passed away on Nov. 22, 2018, at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Jacqueline Smith Hagan. He is survived by his sister, Jane Hagan, of Laguna Hills, Calif.; his daughter, Dawn Hagan (Scott MacLaren) of Lyons, Colo.; his son, John M. Hagan III (Becky), of Georgetown, Maine; his granddaughter, Ariel Hagan Elwell (Matt), of South Portland, Maine; and his great-granddaughter, Fern Jacqueline Elwell.

John was a native of the Commonwealth of Virginia. He attended Virginia Military Institute and Hampden-Sydney College. He lived with his wife, Jackie, in Suffolk, Franklin and Portsmouth most of his life. His long career was spent as an engineer at Birdsong Peanuts in Suffolk and Franklin, where he helped design and build peanut shelling mills in Virginia, Texas and Georgia. He will be affectionately remembered for his strong sense of duty, his enjoyment of spirited repartee, his indomitable character and his innate ability to fix anything that was broken.
