Warriors dominate Deep Creek

The Nansemond River High School won its season opener for the first time in five years Friday night.

The Warriors boys’ basketball team got an 81-48 home win over Deep Creek High School. Justin Fatherly led the way with 22 points for Nansemond River. Jeremiah Lewis started off the season with his first double-double, scoring 10 points and adding 10 rebounds. Nansemond River had five players in double figures. Coach Ed Young was happy with the team’s play

“We were focused,” he said. “It feels good. We jumped out early and continued to play hard throughout the rest of the game. Those guys deserved that win, and it was good to get one.”

Nansemond River will go for two in a row against Grassfield High School on the road at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
