Susanne Tompkins “Sue” Taylor, 72, of 804 Craig Drive, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8, 2018, in Autumn Care of Suffolk.

Mrs. Taylor was born in Port Chester, N.Y., on Oct. 4, 1946, and was the daughter of the late George M. and Geraldine Geilhard Tompkins. A licensed practical nurse, the work she loved most was that of being a loving wife, caring mother and doting grandmother. She was a member of Cool Spring Baptist Church and the Hall Ruritan Club, both in the Eure community of Gates County, where she and her husband made their home for many years and raised their family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Kathy Lofquist.

Surviving are her husband of nearly 50 years, William Edward Taylor Sr.; two daughters, Diane Taylor Prince and husband, Ricky, of Conway, N.C., and Margaret Taylor “Maggie” Orehowsky and husband, Chad, of Poquoson; a son, William E. “Bill” Taylor Jr., of Smithfield, N.C.; a sister, Gerry Palmer; two brothers, Ty and George Tompkins; and two grandchildren she adored, Seth and Ashley Orehowsky.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Cool Spring Baptist Church and will be conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Joe McKnight. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may join the family from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Miller Funeral Home, 304 Main St., Gatesville, N.C., in the church social hall following the service on Friday, or all other times at the home.
