Almeta Barnes Smith

Mrs. Almeta Barnes Smith, of 2615 Riddick Drive, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, Dec. 10, 2018, at the age of 78. She was surrounded by the warmth of her family and was enveloped by an abundance of love and a lifetime of memories. She was a member of the DAV Auxiliary.

Almeta was born in Suffolk on Jan. 7, 1940, to the late Alice Horner Barnes and Leslie Barnes. She is preceded by her late husband, Reginald G. Smith Jr. and leaves to cherish her loving memory, her daughter, Rhonda M. Smith; four brothers, William, Alfred, Bennie and Randy Barnes; sisters-in-law, Shirley Wilkins Barnes and Brenda Barnes Pitt; devoted cousins, Jeanette Carson and Vanessa Harris; and a host of other relatives and extended family, including a loving bond with Michaela, Drew and Michael Phillips.

There will be a Delta Omega Omega Service at 7 p.m. Friday at Harris Funeral Home, following a family visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at First Baptist Church, 112 Mahan St. in Suffolk.
