Man arrested after Carrollton manhunt

A manhunt in the Carrollton area over the weekend came to an end Sunday afternoon with an arrest.

The incident started at 11:15 p.m. Saturday when an Isle of Wight Sheriff’s deputy was conducting traffic enforcement. The deputy conducted a traffic stop near the Econo Lodge on Brewers Neck Boulevard and came into contact with the driver and a single passenger, the press release stated.

During the stop, the passenger got out of the vehicle, assaulted the deputy and then fled into the woods, the release stated. Law enforcement conducted a search of the area and could not locate the person who fled.

At 7:30 a.m. Sunday, a 911 call reported a man matching the description of the suspect from the previous night coming out of the woods in the general area of the hotel. Isle of Wight County K9 units, Virginia State Police K9 units and Smithfield Police searched for the person most of the morning, the release stated.

At 12:15 p.m., the law enforcement finally made an arrest in a wooded area off Nike Park Road.

Jeremiah Corbin, 33, of the 2700 block of Jamestown Avenue in Hampton, was arrested on charges of felony assault of a law enforcement officer and obstruction of justice, as well as a probation violation from Newport News.

Corbin was medically evaluated at Sentara Obici Hospital and later booked into Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
