Children can ring in the new year ahead of time on Saturday at Suffolk Public Library’s “Noon Year’s Eve” extravaganza.

The party will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Morgan Memorial Library, 443 W. Washington St., and North Suffolk Library, 2000 Bennetts Creek Park Road. It is free to attend, and library membership is not required.

Children will make their own New Year’s Eve hats and paint their own fireworks, according to Library Services Coordinator Shawna LoMonaco. They’ll also decorate their own tasty sugar cookies.

Then they’ll will countdown to noon, when 75 to 100 balloons drop over them as the dance party gets into full swing.

“A lot of children don’t get to experience New Year’s Eve at night, (either) because they’re sleeping or because they’re not allowed to,” LoMonaco said. “We thought it would be fun for them to get to have that experience at an appropriate time for children.

“They also get to think about what they have to look forward to in the new year and what they’ve accomplished in the past (year).”
