Still time to donate

We are so happy to report that the Suffolk Cheer Fund met its goal the day before Christmas this year.
The Cheer Fund collections donations to enable the purchase of toys to be handed out by the Salvation Army Suffolk Corps to families who are eligible. This year, thousands of children right here in Suffolk found gifts under the tree with their name on them thanks to the donations of many of you throughout the community.
The goal this year was $40,000, and that was met with the deposit of donations done on Christmas Eve.
However, donations are accepted all year long, and this year’s campaign is still ongoing. There is still plenty of time to donate — and plenty of reason to donate.
Maybe your Christmas cheer arrived a little late. Maybe you got a little more money for Christmas than you expected. Maybe you sold some stuff to make room for your new gifts. Maybe if someone got you a gift you weren’t expecting, and you were caught with nothing to give them, you can donate in their honor to the Cheer Fund and act like you planned it all along.
No matter the reason you donate, consider the reason for the Cheer Fund in the first place. There are many in need throughout our community, and children around the city may not have a cheerful holiday without your help.
To donate to the Cheer Fund, send a check to P.O. Box 1220, Suffolk, VA 23439, or bring it to the newspaper office, 130 S. Saratoga St., from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. We will list your donation in the newspaper, but it can be marked “anonymous” if you like. Donations may be made in honor of or in memory of someone. If you bring the check to our office, we’ll take your photo as you hand it to one of our staff.
