Three dozen quilts recently donated to the Lake Prince Woods retirement community displayed a wide variety of patterns and colors, but they were all obviously made with love.

The Suffolk Quilters Guild donated the 36 quilts to Lake Prince Woods on Dec. 21, just in time for the holidays. They aimed for 40 quilts with only a month and a half to produce them, so for the small guild to get so close to the goal was quite an accomplishment.

The guild consists of only 10 to 15 members, but it’s clear their passion for helping their neighbors — and their love for quilting — far surpasses the physical size of the group.

“It’s easy when you love what you’re doing,” said Lori Murdock, the group’s president. “I could sew all day long, and I think a lot of us are all like that. If we can give back while we are doing it, it’s even better.”

The quilts were being distributed to current and future patients in the care of Lake Prince Woods, to help keep them warm and bring them comfort.

Winter and the holidays can be an especially hard time for elderly people, especially those who are either temporarily or permanently unable to live at home. They are not always able to see their families at the holidays, and gifts may be few and far between.

The quilts donated by the Suffolk Quilters Guild to Lake Prince Woods represent people using their time and talents to bless others with a beautiful gift to keep them warm and make them feel loved, and there is nothing that warms our hearts more during the holiday season.
