Peggy J. Luter passed away on Jan. 2, 2019. She is the daughter of the late J.C. and Burda Slavin. Peggy is the widow of Melvin T. Carroll and John Wayne Luter. She is predeceased by two sisters, Dorothy Beale and Sandra Taylor.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Pam Thomas, of Windsor, and Roxanna Copley (Mike), of Ohio; grandchildren, Brandy Lanier (Aaron), of Ohio, and Daniel Copley (Juliana), of Virginia; great-grandchildren, Tynley and Grant Lanier; stepchildren, Melvin T. Carroll Jr., of Chesapeake, and Linda Lee Carroll, of Newport, N.C.; nephews, Bobby and Tommy Beale; and a niece, Ann Aukes.

Mrs. Luter was a member of West End Baptist Church.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at West End Baptist Church, 105 St. James Ave., Suffolk, with the Rev. T. Floyd Irby Jr. and Dr. J. Robert Pipkin officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk. Burial will be held Tuesday before the service at noon at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The public is invited to attend.
