Edna Bynum Pouncie

Edna Bynum Pouncie, of Gates Road, Suffolk, transitioned on Jan. 6, 2019. She was born July 1, 1942, in Nansemond County to the late Kilby and Mable Baker Bynum. Before relocating to Suffolk, for many years she resided in New York, where she was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Bronx, N.Y.

Edna was a graduate of Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn, N.Y., and furthered her education at Hunter College, Manhattan, N.Y., where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry.

She is survived by one daughter, Tracy Pouncie, of Suffolk; one son, Christopher Pouncie, of Danberry, Conn.; two sisters, Mable Ricks and Mary D. Majette; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild; other relatives and friends.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, in the chapel of Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc., 224 S. Main St. with Elder James Banks Jr. officiating.
