Suffolk natives and cousins Caleb Pittman and Cameron Pittman are in Arizona this week to compete in the Under Armour All-American Pre-Season Tournament.
Caleb and Cameron Pittman will compete among 400 of the top high school players. The Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament brings together a selection of the nation’s top players from across the country, handpicked to train and compete against other top talent at the spring training home of the Chicago Cubs. The event is done by the Baseball Factory.
The Baseball Factory is a service provided to athletes and parents to help educate players on their recruiting processes. Baseball Factory’s vision is to guide both players and parents through the college recruiting process and to professionally train players in order to find a school that is the right fit both academically and athletically. They are widely regarded as a leader in player development.
On Jan. 18-20, Caleb and Cameron will do pro-style combine workouts in front of scouts. From there, they and other players will be split into teams to play in front of scouts.
“I was happy and honored when I heard I got selected to showcase my skills at the pre-season tournament,” Cameron said. “I had been working hard every day to improve my game. When I went and tried out, I showcased some good numbers, and thankfully Baseball Factory chose me to participate.”
“It is exciting news,” Caleb said. “You get pumped when you hear you have a chance to go compete against the best. It’s going to be a great opportunity.”
The cousins will likely be on the East team together, as the three teams are divided by regions.
“I believe that me and Caleb are both ready for this event,” Cameron said. “We are extremely blessed to be a part of it and play in it together. It should be an amazing time.”
“It will be good for us to get down there and compete together,” Caleb said. “With how they normally pick teams, we’ll probably play together, and that’ll be fun. We are excited about the opportunity we have in front of us.”
Not only will the Pittmans play together in Arizona, but they will also be playing together at Nansemond River High School this season. Caleb transferred from Greenbrier Christian Academy, and the two cousins will play with each other for the first time in high school. Last season, Cameron had a strong season for the Warriors, and both will try to contribute for the Warriors this season.
