Suffolk natives Michaela and Michailyn Rose will receive Player of the Year honors at the Virginia USA Track and Field awards.

The Rose family had an incredible year on the track last year. Michaela and Michailyn will both receive Player of the Year honors in their respective age group. Michaela will receive the 15- to 16-year-olds award, and Michailyn will receive the 9- to 10-year-olds award.

Michailyn won at the Indoor USATF Hershey Youth Nationals in the long jump and got third in the high jump last year. At the outdoor nationals, she won the 800-meter and got second in the high jump. She is Virginia State USATF Champion in cross country, indoor and outdoor and all of her events.

Michaela is one of the top cross country runners in the state. She ranked 15th in the state with her 18:22.30 5K time. She is the USATF Hershey Outdoor National 15-16 age group champion in the 800-meter. She placed third in the 400-meter. Her 2:06 800-meter time was so impressive it currently stands as the third fastest time ever for Virginia. At the 2018 New Balance High School Nationals, she was All-American with her fifth-place finish. In Virginia USATF events region and state events, she has never lost an 800-meter or 400-meter race.

The family as a whole is more than proud of Michaela and Michailyn’s accomplishments. Both are homeschooled with a strong family foundation. They have two brothers who are also involved in track.

“We are extremely grateful to God for the health and the great results He has blessed the children with,” their parents Michael and Marcia said. “Our boys struggled a bit with injuries, especially our oldest. We are hopeful this year is better for the boys. We are thankful for the support of our family, our church, our FIA Ambassador Coaches/team, our jobs (Walmart and Tallwood High School coach) and our community. If it wasn’t for Jesus and our support system, the children couldn’t have accomplished any of what they have been blessed to accomplish.”

The Virginia USTF will hold its banquet in Richmond on Feb. 10.
