More than 1,000 customers near the downtown area are out of power due to emergency repairs on a power pole.

The repairs were needed following a vehicle accident on East Washington Street Thursday evening, according to Dominion Energy spokeswoman Bonita Billingsley Harris.

Nearly 1,600 customers were out of power at first. About 500 were restored after about 40 minutes of outage, but nearly 1,100 remain out of power, with an estimated restoration time of 3 to 6 a.m., according to Dominion’s outage map.
