Group celebrates decade, gives scholarships

Members of Deborah’s Women In Ministry Inc. of Greater Hampton Roads awarded four scholarships at their Annual Christmas Gala, which was held at the Hilton Garden Inn Suffolk Riverfront in December.

A part of the organization’s mission is to serve the community by offering scholarships to deserving young people. Each scholarship was $500.

The recipients were Dyamon Daniels, who is studying biology and pre-med at Old Dominion University; Miyah Eley, who is studying psychology and religion at Chowan University; Alexis Olds, who is studying psychology at North Carolina A&T State University; and Chernell White, who is studying biology at Virginia State University.

The guest speaker for the occasion was Dr. Antipas L. Harris, professor of practical theology and associate director of the Doctor of Ministry Program at Regent University School of Divinity, and founding director of the Youth & Urban Renewal Center in Norfolk.

The 2018 gala marked the 10th anniversary of Deborah’s Women In Ministry Inc.
