Suffolk had four girls’ basketball players selected to the All-District teams, including Nylah Young as Player of the Year.

For the second season in a row, King’s Fork High School senior Nylah Young was selected Southeastern District Player of the Year. She was the leading scorer in the district and helped lead King’s Fork to a 7-2 record in the district, which was good for third place. Young said she was excited to receive the award in back-to-back seasons.

“I feel honored,” Young said. “I really worked hard, and with the help of my teammates it happened again.”

Young wasn’t the only Lady Bulldog to be selected first team All-District; senior Neecole Brown also made the team. Young and Brown were the only two representatives on the first team from any Suffolk school. Both Brown and Young were part of a King’s Fork senior group that led the team to top-three finishes in the district in the last two seasons. Brown made the switch to point guard this season for the Bulldogs.

Nansemond River High School and Lakeland High School each had one selection on the district teams. Taylor Paquette was selected second team All-District for Nansemond River. The Lady Warriors finished seventh in the district with a 3-6 record.

Lakeland’s Kemonye Canady was selected second team All-District. The Lady Cavs finished ninth in the district going 1-8.

King’s Fork was the only Suffolk team to reach the regional playoffs for this season.
