The 35th annual juried photo exhibition will return to the Suffolk Art Gallery with an opening reception and awards ceremony from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

This is the largest and longest running juried exhibition of photographic works in Hampton Roads. The exhibit will feature 61 photographs out of the 194 that were submitted during the call for entries, according to Angela Reavis, cultural arts coordinator for the city of Suffolk.

The collection ranges from traditionally-styled photos to digital and film photography.

“It’s really an exhibit to highlight and promote photography,” Reavis said.

Many of the photographers will be there to explain their various pieces, as will this year’s juror, Julian Charles, a professional photographer based in North Carolina. Best in show, second- and third-place awards will be recognized, as well as four honorable mentions.

The awards range from $100 for honorable mentions to $500 for best in show.

“You can see the culmination of months and months of work for both the artists and the gallery,” Reavis said.

The juried photo exhibit will be on display at the gallery at 118 Bosley Ave. from March 9 through April 19. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. All gallery receptions and exhibits are free and open to the public.
