The Lakeland High School softball team has a young but talented team this season.

The Lakeland softball team hopes for a productive season despite not having any seniors. Coach Steve Wood returns and is excited about the youth he has. Lakeland has had two good scrimmages and feels good about where they are.

“The girls are still figuring each other, but they’ve been getting better every day,” Wood said. “We’ve had a couple of good scrimmages, and we are hitting the ball well. I feel like we have a very good team.”

Returning for the Lady Cavs this season is All-Region junior Lisa Stuprich. They also return sophomore Aryn Kinsey along with some more productive young players. Wood feels solid about his team and has options to go any way he’d like with lineups.

Playing in the talented Southeastern District is always tough, but Lakeland wants to go out and play as hard as it can against some of the bigger teams and even pull off a couple of upsets. They have non-district competitive games where they can try to bolster their case for the region tournament come playoffs.

“I like the challenge of playing against the big schools,” Wood said. “We have some games where we can get some key wins for the region. But overall we are excited about the challenge in front of us.”

Wood is excited to see the team grow.
