The purpose-filled life of our beloved Sandra Laverne Goodman Whitney began in Suffolk on Aug. 24, 1952, a beautiful day designed just for her. This heavenly creation was a gift to the late William Goodman and the late Marie Moore Goodman.

Laverne attended the public schools of Suffolk and graduated from Suffolk High School. She continued her education at Chowan University and at DeKalb College, where she entered the field of nursing.

Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Catherine Whitney; grandson, Hunter Dorsey; grandparents, William J. Goodman, Mary Ruffin Goodman, Henry Moore, Marie Moore; and stepmother, Jean Goodman.

She leaves to honor and cherish her life and memories: her loving and devoted daughter, Tia Dorsey; grandson, Tyler Dorsey; brothers, Marvin Goodman, Eugene Goodman (Annette); uncles, Sam Goodman (Fannie), Roland Goodman (Vivian); aunts, her devoted Aunt Virginia Rollins (Frank), Elizabeth Jordan; niece, Marvette Ingram (Andre); nephews, William Goodman, Aaron Goodman, Justin Goodman, Alonzo Thomas, (Ba’Aisha), Whitney Thomas (Brittany); devoted sister-in-law, Brenda Broadnax (Bonhuer); cousins, the Goodman family and the Moore family; devoted cousin, Jenita Johnson; and dedicated, treasured friends, Pamela Williams and Martha Lawrence.

A celebration of life for Mrs. Sandra L. Whitney will held at noon Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 2177 Usher St., NW, Covington, Ga. Young-Levett Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Information provided by Crocker Funeral Home Inc.
