A new business is coming to Northgate Commerce Park, while another is expanding its operations.

T.A. Sheets, a construction utility, bought 30 acres in Northgate and is constructing two buildings totaling 30,000-square feet for an office, warehouse and shop facility on 30 acres, according to Economic Development Director Kevin Hughes. Heartland Construction broke ground on the property earlier this month.

Suffolk is providing T.A. Sheets with a $155,292.72 Economic Development Investment Program grant, which is administered through the Economic Development Authority, Hughes said.

As part of the company’s operations, it is also building a laydown yard. Hughes estimates that the project will be complete sometime in 2020.

The company employs more than 150 employees and has an average annual revenue of $45 million, according to information on the company’s website.

Hampton Roads Moving and Storage, meanwhile, is expanding its 60,000-square-foot facility by just under 25,000 square feet, and it is getting a $30,000 EDIP grant, which Hughes said will offset some of the water utility infrastructure needs to help with that expansion. The company, established in 1991, consolidated all of its operations into the Suffolk facility in 2015.

“In each one of these projects, there’s multiple revenue streams from a taxation standpoint,” Hughes said. “So there’s real estate, for the industrial uses, there’s personal property (taxes) attached to those. There’s jobs created with them.”
