Communities in Schools Hampton Roads will hold its inaugural Golfing for Kids tournament on April 11 at Cedar Point Country Club, 8056 Clubhouse Drive. The event will be from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The national Communities in Schools organization works directly in 2,300 schools across 25 states and Washington D.C. to build relationships that empower students to stay in school and succeed.

Approximately one in five children under the age of 18 live in poverty nationwide, according to communitiesinschools.org, and they are disproportionately children of color who are already struggling with access and equity. Without community support, they’re at risk for missing more school, dropping out and failing to earn their high school diplomas.

This tournament will fundraise for Communities in Schools of Hampton Roads and their efforts in 12 different Hampton Roads schools, including Elephant’s Fork Elementary School in Suffolk. In-school staff work directly with teachers to identify challenges students face either in class or at home and help provide the community-based services that they need to learn.

“Ultimately we’re keeping kids in schools, and these are some of our most at-risk students in Hampton Roads,” said Hope Sinclair, executive director for Communities in Schools of Hampton Roads.

Sign-in on tournament morning will begin at 10 a.m., and lunch will be served from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. The welcoming ceremony will be at 11:30 a.m., and the shotgun start tee-off will follow at noon. There will also be a silent auction before and after play.

Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m., and prizes will be awarded.

Registration costs $200 for individuals and $800 for teams. The fee includes putting range, 18 holes of golf, a cart, gift bag, lunch, beverage, dinner and awards.

Registration forms and payment must be submitted by April 1 and online registration must be completed by April 5. Register online at cisofhamptonroads.org.
