Henry Lee Johnson Sr., 76, of Ocklawaha Avenue, Suffolk, transitioned Monday, March 25, 2019, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was the son of the late Ruby Mae Johnson and Joseph Lee Johnson Sr. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Emma Johnson.
He retired in 2011 from Coastal Lumbar Company after 46Â years after faithful and dedicated services as the head mechanic. Henry was also a member of the Elks Lodge No. 206.
He leaves to cherish his memories three daughters, Carolyn Johnson (Jeff), Gladys Dildy (James), and Valla Vaughan (Lonniel), all of Suffolk; two sons, Henry Lee Johnson Jr. (Ellen) and Christopher Johnson (Catherine), both of Suffolk; sister, Ruby Ernell Evans (Eugene), of Suffolk; four brothers, Wilmer Thomas Johnson (Eva), of Newark, N.J., James Samuel Johnson (Brenda), of Suffolk, William Earl Johnson (Alisha), of Newark, and Jeffery Nelson Johnson (Diane), of Franklin; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; aunt, Jeanette Brown, of Ahoskie; uncle, Clarence Marshal, of Hampton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2019, at Antioch United Church of Christ, 900 Hull St., Suffolk. The Rev. Jarvis A. Jones will deliver the message of comfort. He will be laid to rest in Canaan Church Cemetery in Suffolk. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home Inc.
