Emergency roadwork has necessitated the complete closure of a bridge on Wilroy Road, according to a city press release.

The Department of Public Works is installing a protective barrier on the bridge, which is located south of the Route 58 bypass. The closure is already in place and is expected to be completed by 1 a.m.

On Thursday morning, Virginia Natural Gas crews and city crews will conduct additional work on the bridge that will require a single-lane closure. The work will begin at 9 a.m. and should be completed by 1 p.m.

Flaggers will direct alternating traffic, but delays should be expected. The public is encouraged to use Nansemond Parkway or other alternative routes to avoid delays.
