Lakeland holds off Indian River

Indian River made a late push, but Lakeland’s softball team held on for a 9-7 home win Thursday.

Lakeland started strong and controlled most of the game, jumping out to a two-run lead after the first inning, extending the lead to 9-0 by the end of the fifth inning before Indian River scored later in the game to make it close.

Hayleigh Presson had a no-hitter going into the fifth inning. Aryn Kinsey was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Dani Riddle went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Brooke Howe and Christina Butler were 2-for-4 with doubles.

Lakeland is now 5-3 and will travel to King’s Fork High School for a game at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
