The Nansemond River High School baseball team is now 8-0 after a win over rival Lakeland High School last Saturday.
The Warriors are continuing their hot streak after defeating Lakeland 9-2. Nansemond River used a strong first inning to set the tempo of the game, bringing in five runs during that inning. They totaled eight runs over their first three innings and held an 8-2 lead over Lakeland before scoring their final run in the fifth.
Daulton Manning, Cameron Pittman and Zach Cain handled pitching duties, with Manning getting the win on the mound. Tyler Spencer pitched a complete game for the Cavs and took the loss.
Noah Boone and Demonta Hawkins each had two hits to lead the Cavs. Hawkins also added a double. For the Warriors, four different players had a hit. Ben Grady added a double.
Last week, Nansemond River got back-to-back wins over both of its crosstown rivals.
The Warriors will go on the road to take on Hickory High School at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Hickory is considered among the best teams in the area, so the matchup will be highly anticipated. Lakeland will face off with its other rival, King’s Fork, on the road at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
