To the editor:

My name is Barbara Hughes, and a little over three months ago, my world changed.

As I was working at the 911 center, a call came in of a structure fire. I was listening to the calltaker take the information and had a bad feeling that it was my house by the location that was given.

My co-workers took my channel and told me to leave. As I was driving, I was hoping that this was all a mistake, but it was not. It was true. Everything that I owned was in flames. Years of memories and my precious fur babies had died in the fire.

At that point, I did not know what was going to happen next. Within a very short time after the incident, I started receiving donations through a GoFundMe page and started getting calls and texts from people wanting to donate clothing, hygiene products and items that I needed at that time.

These angels are from a lot of places not only in our community but also from across the United States and internationally.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for everything they have done to help me get back on my feet. There are really not words to describe the amount of gratitude and love I have for each and every one of you.

I could not have done this alone. I am so blessed to have you supporting me through this journey. May God bless you the way He has blessed me with you.

Barbara Hughes
