Soldier dies in parachuting accident

A West Virginia Army National Guard soldier died in an accident during a military training exercise at Suffolk Executive Airport Wednesday afternoon.
The Suffolk Police Department and Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the call at 2:02 p.m.
Firefighters provided treatment, and Nightingale responded, but the male soldier was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a press release from the city of Suffolk.
Maj. Holli Nelson of the West Virginia Army National Guard confirmed the death in a press release.
The name and unit of the soldier are being withheld until notification of the next of kin has taken place. More information is expected Thursday, when the West Virginia Army National Guard is expected to hold a press conference.
The investigation remains ongoing, and no further information is available for release, the press release stated.
