Cavs fall short against Hopewell

The Lakeland High School baseball team fell just short in a matchup with Hopewell High School Monday evening.
The Cavs fell 6-5 in the nine-inning matchup. It was a close battle that saw Hopewell score a run in the final inning to take the victory.
Hopewell took an early lead 2-1 in the first inning. After tying the game up at two, Lakeland took its first lead in the third inning, taking a 5-3 lead.
Hopewell came back and tied the game up in the fifth inning. Both teams played for an additional four innings before a Hopewell hitter singled, bringing in the game-winning run.
Overall, Lakeland played a strong game from the plate. They had 12 hits as a team and outhit Hopewell.
Tyler Spencer and Carlin Walden handled pitching duties for Lakeland, with Walden taking the loss. Spencer hit well from the plate, going 4-5 with a triple.
