James C. Vines Jr.

James C. Vines Jr., 78, died Wednesday, April 29, 2019, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Windsor and had been a resident for all of his life. James C. Vines Jr. retired from the Newport News Shipyard, where he was a sheet metal specialist, on Sept. 30, 2003, as a steel worker after 40 years of service. He was a member of Christian Home Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge of Windsor. He was also a trustee of Morning Star Baptist Church.

James Vines is survived by his wife, Clara Vines; his daughters, Katrina Vines, of Windsor, and Carla Vines, of Fredericksburg; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Annaliza Vines, of Suffolk. James leaves seven grandchildren, Derrick Ray Vines, Alisha N. Vines, Ashely M. Vines, Michael R. Vines Jr., Ashley Bullock, Shameka Wyche, and last but not least, Timothy Winborne.

He had three great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Christian (Clyde) Vines and Malani Holliman. He leaves behind three brothers, Sylvester and wife, Fae Vines, of Portsmouth, Theodore Enis Vines and wife, Frances Vines, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Rudolph Vines and Valerie Vines, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and four sisters, Clarice Vines, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Judith Rae Vines, of New York, N.Y., Angenetta Pretlow, of Suffolk, and Vernetta Grant, of Suffolk.

The family will receive friends Friday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at his home. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, at Christian Home Baptist Church, Windsor, with Pastor the Rev. Wendell Waller presiding. Burial will follow at Morning Star Baptist Church, Windsor.
