With a 1-0 win last Saturday afternoon, the Hickory High School baseball team eliminated the Nansemond River High School Warriors.

For the third time this season, Hickory and Nansemond River matched up. In the previous two meetings, Hickory had won both by close scores. Both teams played each other the week prior to end the regular season.

In a low-scoring affair, the game was tied at zero for four innings until Hickory got the first run on the board. It ended up being the last for the game. Nansemond River had only two hits on the day. Caleb Pittman pitched a complete game for the Warriors, striking out five and allowing three hits.

Nansemond River finished its season with a 14-7 record. The Warriors had surprised a lot of spectators in the start of the season, winning nine of their first 10 games. During that stretch, they also took down some of the top teams in South Hampton Roads. Throughout the season, the Warriors have always played the top teams tough.
