Family of five displaced in fire

A family of five was displaced from its apartment on Sunday evening.

The fire was reported at 7:01 p.m. in the 10 block of Stacey Drive at the Cypress Manor Apartments, according to a city press release.

Firefighters arrived six minutes after the call to find smoke showing from a second-story window and the roof of a unit in the middle of the apartment building. The occupants had evacuated prior to firefighters, the press release stated. Residents were briefly evacuated from two adjacent apartments.

The fire was isolated primarily to a second-floor bedroom and called under control at 7:21 p.m., the press release stated. There were no injuries.

Five occupants, including an adult and four juveniles, were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The Fire Marshal’s Office will investigate the cause of the fire.
