Seven for NR softball make All-Region

The Nansemond River High School softball team had seven players make the All-Region teams.

The Lady Warriors had a strong season this year, finishing among the top three teams in the Southeastern District and then going on to play in the region tournament.

After a first-round Class 5 Region A win over Warwick High School, Nansemond River battled with the eventual region champions, Menchville High School. Even though they lost, Nansemond River had strong individual performances throughout the region tournament.

Nansemond River had three on the first team in Misty Even, Taylor Cherry and Shelby Knaak. Hayley Duckett, Krysten Haley, Er’ron Burton and Megan Wilson were all second-team selections. Toni Jones was an honorable mention. Haley and Jones had home runs during the postseason.

On the All-District team, Nansemond River had six selections, and they also had the coach of the year in Gabe Rogers.
