Ruth Elizabeth Woodruff Outlaw

Mrs. Ruth Elizabeth Woodruff Outlaw, 86, formerly of Hollywood Avenue, Suffolk, went to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. She was a native of Suffolk, born on April 26, 1933, to the late Robert Lee Woodruff Sr. and Daisy Joyner Woodruff. She worked as a clerk cashier at Rosa & Williams Groceries and later at Alpha Food Store. A 74-year member of East End Baptist Church, she served on numerous committees and enjoyed singing in the choir.
Ruth Elizabeth Woodruff Outlaw was married to her high school sweetheart, James Edward Outlaw, who preceded her in death in 2011. She is survived by two daughters, Sheila O. Cooper, of Charlotte, N.C., and Constance O. Hill (Dennis Sr.), of Prince George County; five grandchildren, Dennis J. Hill Jr. (Victoria), of Triangle; LaTonya C. Howard (Vaughn), of Bowie, Md.; Andrea M. Hill, of Chesterfield; Marcus D. Cooper (Shaneka), of Huntersville, N.C.; and Travis L. Hill, of Prince George; five great-granddaughters, Braje’ Hill, Kennedy and Reagan Cooper, and Camdyn and Caiden Hill; one great-grandson, Chandler Howard; one sister, Evelyn V. Walker; a niece who was loved as a daughter, Gail V. Bess (AB), of Portsmouth; two sisters-in-law, Gloria Outlaw and Josephine Outlaw; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and neighbors.
A visitation will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Her celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2019, at East End Baptist Church, and she will be laid to rest at Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery.
