Arrest made in Carver homicide

An arrest has been made in the February homicide of a local mother of two.

Cynthia Carver, 34, went missing from her Everett Street home in Newsoms on Feb. 22. Her body was found on March 19 in rural southwestern Suffolk.

“Southampton County detectives were able to secure a warrant this morning for first degree murder for James Goodwyn Jr., 39, of Virginia Beach,” according to a press release from the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office.

Goodwyn was located and arrested without incident in Virginia Beach on Thursday, the press release stated. He is being held in the Virginia Beach City Jail.

“The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Norfolk Field Office of the FBI for their assistance throughout the entire investigation and we would like to thank the Virginia Beach Police Department and the Suffolk Police Department for their assistance in this investigation at different times,” the release stated.
