Suffolk native Sugar Rodgers reached her 1,600 career point mark in the WNBA Sunday afternoon.
Former King’s Fork High School standout Sugar Rodgers has been having a solid season so far for the Las Vegas Aces. She was traded from the New York Liberty before the season started and has seemed to transition well with her new team.
In the first quarter of the Aces game against the Minnesota Lynx, a three-pointer in the first quarter pushed Rodgers to the 1,600 career point milestone. She finished the game with eight points and three assists in 16 minutes. The Aces are currently 12-6.
Rodgers is in her sixth year as a professional player after being drafted by the Liberty in 2013. Over the course of her career to this point, she has been a WNBA All-Star (2017) and has also been the WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year. That award goes to the top reserve in the league for that year. She is also among the top players in three-pointers made in Liberty history.
In her time at King’s Fork, Rodgers was a nationally ranked player who was a McDonald’s All-American. She then went on to Georgetown University, where she starred as well.
