The Suffolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority has named Michael Pack as its community development director. His first day was Monday.

Most recently, Pack worked with the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority as its director of community development and capital funds. While there, Pack managed all development and redevelopment activities for the Portsmouth authority.

That included helping convert that city’s public housing into federal Housing and Urban Development rental assistance demonstration program, which seeks to preserve public housing by providing public housing agencies with access to more stable funding to make needed property improvements.

Pack also has experience as the development director of the Newport News Redevelopment and Housing Authority, and before that, worked as a senior project manager for the Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority.

“We are very happy to have him on board with us,” said SRHA Executive Director Tracey Snipes. “He has hit the ground running.”

Snipes was effusive in praising the expertise Pack will bring to Suffolk.
“It’s an exciting time to come on board with Suffolk,” Snipes said, “because we have some great things that are happening. … We look forward to working with you.”

Pack said he has been privileged to have been a part of different developments across the region, and he looks forward to his tenure in Suffolk.

“I’ve been blessed to be a part of some really cool projects, a lot of really good developments,” Pack said. “That’s been my background. My entire time has always been in development and I’m looking forward to it. You guys have got a lot of really good stuff coming up, some really interesting projects, so I’m just looking to dig in.”
