Gas prices continue to be cheaper in Virginia relative to most other states, as Virginia was ranked as having the eighth cheapest nationwide, according to a AAA Tidewater Virginia press release on Tuesday.

This was in spite of a slight increase in prices at the gas pumps in July. The average price for a gallon as of Tuesday was $2.52, which was a one-cent decrease from last week but 12 cents more than last month.

The Tuesday average was 10 cents more expensive than a month ago, but eight cents cheaper than a year ago, according to the press release.

“Gasoline stocks remain robust amid a recent dip in demand, which could be one reason we are seeing pump prices starting to roll back,” AAA Tidewater Virginia spokeswoman Georjeane Blumling stated in the press release. “It is too soon to know if this is a long-term trend, but it is certainly a welcome relief for motorists.”

Gasbuddy.com on Wednesday afternoon recorded regular gas prices in Suffolk that ranged from $2.35 to $2.59 per gallon, which represents a noticeable uptick compared to the $2.31 to $2.49 range that was recorded on June 18.
