Families can bring their children to the Parks and Recreation T.G.I.F. concert on Aug. 2 to enjoy the National Night Out Duck Pluck.

The free event will be from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at Bennett’s Creek Park, 3000 Bennett’s Creek Park Road. The band Affirmative Groove will perform. There will also be food available for purchase and a children’s area for activities.

Members of the Suffolk National Night Out Committee will be on site at a booth. Committee members will distribute material about National Night Out, as well as free tickets for the Duck Pluck.

Ticket holders whose numbers correspond with the numbered rubber ducks that are drawn will receive National Night Out gift packages. The drawing will be held during the band’s first break.

“We will have general information on Suffolk National Night Out itself along with up-to-date details on all of the party locations across the city,” spokesman Tim Kelley wrote in an email. “We will also have giveaways for children and adults who are in attendance.”

The National Association of Town Watch’s 36th annual National Night Out program enhances the relationship between residents and law enforcement in a positive, community-centric way.

Millions of neighbors participate in National Night Out in thousands of communities across all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August. This year’s celebration will take place on Aug. 6.

According to Kelley, more than 80 neighborhoods and business sponsors will participate in Suffolk this year.

“We continue to marvel in the civic pride shown in the Suffolk community when it comes to being a part of National Night Out,” Kelley wrote. “This event is so successful due to everyone stepping up to give crime a going away party.”
